DBS checks and requirements

A DBS check is a record of a person's criminal convictions and cautions. Checks are carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

You must pass a DBS check as part of the chaperone licence application process.

For us to check your DBS status, you must:

  • have a valid Enhanced DBS certificate
  • be registered with the
  • consent to us checking your status on the DBS Update Service

If you do not have an Enhanced DBS

You must before submitting your chaperone licence application.

To complete the online application, you will need:

  • your National Insurance number
  • details of any previous addresses
  • 3 documents to verify your identity -

You will also need to enter the council’s:

  • organisation reference: CHAPERONES
  • organisation code: CHAP2023

Both are case sensitive.
